Open Mouth, Insert...Crow

Okay, so after years of saying I was never going to have a blog, here I
am, writing my first post. Why'd I change my mind? Not really sure. Maybe it's because I've become addicted to reading other people's blogs over the past few months. Maybe it's because it seems that everyone and their mother has one now and, geez, guess I better get on that bandwagon. I don't know. What I do know for sure, though, is that somewhere out there in TV Land, Nelson from The Simpson is laughing at me.

Okay, first of all, I want to thank Deena Warner for designing and building this awesome site. It looks great. I love it. I also want to thank her for putting up with me, as well. I'm a serious control freak, so I know it couldn't have been easy. Thanks, Deena, for being incredibly talented and incredibly patient.

And second, I want to welcome all my visitors (all, what, 5 of you?) to my new
website. I haven't got much to say for myself, but what I do have to say is all here.

I've actually had several cool things happen to me over the past two months. Course, I didn't have a blog then, so I couldn't jabber about them, but lucky you, I do now, so just in case you haven't heard me screaming, here are the latest developments in my life:

At the beginning of February, I found out the first story I sold, "Soft, Like a Rabbit," was going to appear in Issue 6 of Fantasy Magazine (it should be out any day now,) and that it got good reviews at Tangent Online and the IROSF.

Then I found out my novelette, "The Sun God at Dawn, Rising from a Lotus Blossom," won first place in the Writers of the Future contest. That, of course, totally made my year, but things got even better a couple of days later when Robert J. Sawyer, one of the judges for my quarter, had some really, really nice things to say about the story. Thanks, Robert!!!

Then, on top of all that good stuff, I had the honor of being invited to read my work at the New York Review of Science Fiction reading series (thank you, Bill and Jim!)

So I got that going for me, which is nice.

I also went to Lunacon on the weekend of the 17th and hung out with my friends: Dave Kirtley, John Joseph Adams, Amy Tibbets, Doug Cohen, Chris Cevascoand E. It was a blast, as usual. Here are some pictures. There aren't many, but that's because I always forget that I have a camera. These were taken in my room. It was late. We were all very tired.

And, yeah, I think that's all I've got for now.

So, come on, tell the truth...for a first post, it was absolutely riveting, wasn't it?

Very lovely new website. I knew you'd join the rest of us bloggers and webspace owners soon enough! Everyone does, eventually ... try as you might, you can't resist the tug of a mass audience at your fingertips ...

Hey Abby!

Thanks for saying hi!

Yeah, another useless, uninformed opinion. Just what the internet needed. :)

Very nice site.

I like the Art Nouveau look and the fact that the woman in the right corner looks like she's weilding a whip as well as a pen. Yeah, I don't know why that appeals to me either...

I can't wait for more useless, uninformed opinions. Remember it's okay to be intemperate as long as you remain entertaining.

LOL. A whip? TMI, dude, TMI.

And have no fear, even when I'm flaying someone alive, I'm always entertaining.

Hey, welcome to the blogosphere! Will you be strictly blogging about writing & personal stuff, or might we get some interesting TV stories? (Or would you risk being fired for blogging about such things?)

Andrea, bubbachick!

Congrats on the new site and on your recent spate of ass-kickin', both writin' and award-winnin'.

As they say down undah (where we lived for a whole month - long story) GOOD ON YA, MATE!

Can't wait to read some of your (traditional) print stuff.

Can't wait to learn how to read, first, but hey, one step at a time.

Been awhile! Come on over for a hot tub when the show's in SF. We're 20 minutes away, or we can drag our sad carcasses into the city (well, the other "the city").

All da best,

Josh L

Hey, John. Thanks!

Yeah, I think it would be safer to stay away from the work stories, though if something comes up that I don't think will get me in trouble, I'll talk about it. But no behind-the-scenes scoops, sorry. I've gotten used to this whole steady paycheck thing I got going on.

Joshala!

Happy Passover! Good to hear from you and hope you guys are doing well. I'll be working, like, 13 hour days when I'm in SF, but I'll send you an email and maybe we can meet up.

It's been so long!!!

Hey, Doug! Thanks. I'm sure this will suck up lots of time I don't have. But isn't that the point? :)
